By Our Reporter

President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday officially commissioned US$30 million (about Shs111 billion) Uganda Industrial Skills Training and Production Centre in Namanve.

While officiating at the function, Museveni thanked the ED of Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI), Prof. Charles Kwesiga for following up on both UIRI and the Machining Centre. “We are going to extend the Machining facility to casting and Foundry,” he added.

Museveni thanked the government of the People’s Republic of China and the Ugandan team for the completion of the project.

With this new facility, Museveni said the dream towards industrialisation, import substitution, export promotion, technical skilling of the youth to fill gaps in the job market, comes even closer.

This state of the art Machining Center has been built and completed within the schedule of two years under the support of the government of the People’s Republic of China.

Finance minister Matia Kasaija said the centre would enhance technology & innovation and create more jobs for the country’s young people. “We thank the Chinese Govt for the support,” Kasaija said.

The opening function was attended by Uganda as well as Chinese officials.

The centre falls under UIRI, A lead Agency in industrialisation of Uganda and a center of excellence in industrial research for the East African Community.
