Government-owned Post Office, whose key activity is the delivery of parcels to clients is to lose business worth millions of shillings effective April 1, 2020 as Standard Chartered Bank Uganda has decided to deliver periodic paper account statements direct to its clients’ email addresses.
“Standard Chartered Bank Uganda Limited will cease to send paper statements via the Post Office effective 1st April 2020. All periodic account statements shall be sent directly to clients’ email addresses registered with the bank,” the bank said in a statement on Monday.
Management in the statement published did not give the reasons as to why they have stopped using Post Office to send documents to the bank’s clients but a source within the bank said it was one way of cutting operational costs. “The bank is looking at many ways of providing cost-effective services to clients,” he said, urging clients without email addresses to acquire them using the SC Mobile App or Online Banking.
Meanwhile Housing Finance Bank (HFB) plans to deactivate all ATMs without Mastercard logo effective April 2020, according to the latest statement.
“All customers are encouraged to visit our branches and obtain the plastic HFB Mastercard which is issued on the same day of application,” the bank said on Monday in the statement.
With the HFB Mastercard customers are able to transact worldwide at any ATM or Point of Sale with a Mastercard logo to shop or make payments online.
