Eight Chinese nationals have been arrested in Zombo, enroute to neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.
Whereas their details remain scanty, Police’s Chief Political Commissar, AIGP Asan Kasingye said in a tweet, the suspects, who had earlier escaped from quarantine will be charged in the courts of law.
PLANS TO SHUTDOWN AIRPORT
Meanwhile, a high-level meeting held in Entebbe Friday night resolved that it would be safest to have Entebbe International Airport temporarily shut down as the nation continues to monitor the pandemic.
The meeting, earlier, convened to discuss the progress, so far, in the President Yoweri Museveni noted that whereas other loopholes are well taken care of, the airport remain a deadly hotspot.
This, followed cases of escape from quarantine centres coupled with alleged corruption to have ‘certain people’ evade the centre.
Against the above background and with assurance of living no stones unturned in securing the country, the meeting agreed that the only option is to close the airport.
To this, an announcement is expected the coming week.
Already, airlines, including Emirates have cancelled flights to Uganda while national carrier, Uganda Airlines has cut flights to neighboring Mombasa.
