Every year, Christians from all over the world gather in Namugongo to commemorate the Uganda Martyrs who were persecuted for their faith.
However, this year, due to the government restrictions on public gatherings because of the COVID-19, only few invited people will attend.
“We are going to have celebrations in Namugongo but with very few invited people,” Provincial Secretary, Rev Canon William Ongeng said in a statement.
The President has been invited as the Chief Guest.
On Monday June 1, 2020 at 9am, The Archbishop of Church of Uganda, The Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu will make an on-site visit to Namugongo and thereafter address a press conference together with the Chairman of Namugongo Development Committee, Retired Bishop Jackson Matovu and the Bishop of Namirembe Diocese, Rt Rev Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira ahead of the big day – June 3, 2020.
