Tourism in Uganda recently received a huge user confidence boost following the Wednesday July 23 visit of over 200 tourists, both local and foreign, who were in Katunguru Park to enjoy the flora and fauna.
The enthralling message was delivered by theminister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities Col (rtd) Tom Butime, who said all the visitors to Katunguru Park that borders the Queen Elizabeth National Park, were on schedule before government announced a lockdown due the advent of the coronavirus in March.
An enthused Butime told European Union representatives on a Covid assessment retreat at the QENP that the entire tourism sector was up for business again, but urged the consumers to observe the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), as guided by the health ministry.
In June the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) started reopening of the national parks, paving the way for tourists to start planning for visits to the various tourism sites across the country.
Tourism is one of the major forex earners, bringing in about US$1.6 billion before the advent of the coronavirus.
According to their itinerary, the EU representatives also visited Mweya Safari Lodge, Kazinga Channel, and Mountains of the Moon Hotel in Fort Portal.
