Museveni Orders IGP Ochola: Fire RPC, DPC

In a space of two days, the Inspector General of Police, Martins Okoth Ochola, has had to apologize to Emeritus John Baptist Kaggwa and the Buganda Kingdom, following recent operational mistakes by Mityana Police.

On Tuesday, the IGP sent the smooth-talking AIGP, Asan Kasingye, and a team of other senior security officers to Kaggwa’s house. While there, AIGP Kasingye delivered IGP’s message, apologizing for the mistakes of the force.

Wednesday morning, the same team paid a courtesy call on the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, at his Bulange offices. While here, sources say whereas Mayiga received the apology, he tasked the police force to act on the errant officers.

THE ORDER

We have exclusively obtained that President Yoweri Museveni at the weekend had a lengthy chat with the IGP.

In between the chat came the force’s action on Mbogo clan members and the Catholic Church. The IGP reportedly told the President that the incident was under review and that once the review was done, an appropriate action would be taken against the officers.

Insiders say the President tasked Ochola to drop implicated commanders, once they were held liable. Against the above background, the Regional Police Commander (RPC), Bob Kagalula and the District Police Commander (DPC), Alex Mwine have been put on notice.

BACKGROUND

Days ago, the police used excessive force to disperse members of Buganda Kingdom’s Mbogo Clan.

The clan members had convened at their ancestral site at Mugulu – Ziggoti Town Council to attend a thanks giving prayer for their leader, Gajuule Kayiira Kasibante.

Kasibante served as head of Buganda’s 52 clans for seven years until recently when the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II replaced him with Omutaka Namwama Augustine Nsereko.

That morning mass was led by retired Masaka Diocesan Bishop John Baptist Kaggwa but the function was later disrupted by police officers when they fired teargas to block more people from accessing the venue. In the ensuing melee, some elderly persons fainted after inhaling teargas. Against this background, the President wants the offices penalized.
