Minister Mao tasks government to appropriate funds to Acholi people

The minister for Justice and constitutional affairs, Hon. Nobert Mao, has tasked government to avail more resources to locals in Acholi region to enable them engage in commercial farming. 

The Minister noted  vast piece of land in Acholi region is underutilized because majority of locals engage in subsistence agriculture due to unfavorable climate conditions. He made the remarks on the official launch of Entebbe Acholi Development Association at Fisheries Institute in Entebbe.

Addressing members of Acholi community in Entebbe , Minister Nobert Mao, said there is need for government to fund local farmers in Acholi region on better farming practices like irrigation if government is to achieve it’s goal of middle income status.

He urged the Entebbe Acholi group to desist from partisan politics, and scoffed at his critiques, who accuse him of selling the Democratic party saying this is untrue but the move was intended to move closer to the president such that his party can have bargaining when discussing peaceful transfer of power.

He also challenged the Acholi group in urban areas to advocate for better farming practices to enable their fellow Acholis in villages participate in commercial farming.

The chairperson Entebbe Acholi Development Association, Consolata Acayo, apppealed to fellow Acholis to fight as team to protect their land against grabbers, and properly utilize it for investment opportunities.

The vice president of Entebbe Acholi Development Association, George Omar Challenged fellow Acholis to engage in income generating activities and promote the Acholi culture and heritage.
