All roads headed to Luwero district in the popular NRM /NRA bush war triangle on Monday 29 April 2024 for the official opening ceremony for the high profile national secondary school’s games competitions 2024.
The opening event was done at Ndejje University while the main base for the games is at Ndejje SSS with residential facilities being hosted by St.Janan schools Bombo were over 1,500 participating students are housed while Ndejje is home to the girls respectively.

The chief guest was the Luwero district governor Erasto Kibirango who decried the escalating cases of mercenaries eating through the prestigious games and sports competitions across the country saying the government needed to curb the incident as it negatively affects the general performance of genuine participants.
He commended the leadership of the games and the ministry of education in general for granting an opportunity to his district to host the games saying they are humbled by the gesture and as well urging the participating teams to work hard and excel.
The games are being hosted by Ndejje SS where a total of over 4,696 students drawn from 201 schools in company of over 391 officials are on the ground for the tough encounter which started 27th April – 5th May.
The commissioner physical education and sports in the ministry of education and sports Rev. Duncan Mugumya said the government has directed security to arrest head teachers who are implicated in hiring mercenaries during games competitions because the act was criminal and punishable by law.
Mugumya revealed that the government was concerned about the clandestine hire of mercenaries to participate in schools’ games competition saying it was criminal and the culprit head teachers must be arrested and sent to prison.
He pointed out that the new National Sports Act 2023 dictates that any school implicated in the clandestine hire of mercenaries for purposes of playing for that school commits an offence and is liable for prosecution.
Mugumya noted that instead of banning or punishing the culprit student or mercenary, the government now wants the headmasters of such schools arrested and arraigned in courts of law.

He directed all RDCs, RCCs and security forces across the country to swing into action and arrest and cause the prosecution of such head teachers of culprit schools.
Kibirango separately thanked the government for the new policy saying as district local governments, they appreciate the new policy position given that the act was bad and must be condemned by all leaders for the good of the games profession.
As district governor, he commended the Ndejje SSS for hosting the games as well as the government and sports sector stakeholders including ASSHU and USSSA.
