In fulfillment of government policy for each sub county to have a secondary school, the Agule county member of parliament in Pallisa district David Ochwa has supported the community of Akisim sub county with money for the survey of the land church of Uganda Bukedi diocese ordered for the school construction in Akisim sub county.
Ochwa handed the 2.9 million needed for the survey to the parish Church leadership at Akisim Church of Uganda Parish headquarters witnessed by Hajjat Aisha Nakusi the Pallisa resident district commissioner on Monday afternoon.
Ochwa said it was shameful for Akisim sub county which was carved from Kameke in 2010 to lack a secondary school..
” This is not time for politics but work and service delivery. I urge the people of Pallisa to take education of their children as priority , as a leader I feel bad for our district always to be among the last ten,” Ochwa said.
He also encouraged people to take their children who perform well in sciences to join Agule school of nursing and midwifery which is near tuition friendly rather than taking them to distant places.
“Agule school of nursing has over 100 students from Karamoja, 200 from Teso and 300 from Western Uganda but very few from Pallisa because of politics of intrigue but I urge you to invest in education being the only asset left for you yo give your child,” Ochwa said
Ochwa asked parents to consider education of their children saying the ministry of education and sports upon the submission of the land title by the district will release shs. 500 million for construction of a two classroom block.
“I am going to take all necessary steps within my ability to ensure this long awaited school is built. This is not time for politics, let’s all focus on issues of development,” Ochwa said.
He asked parents to consider the welfare of their children at school by giving them something to eat, me as a leader, I am going to procure sets of assessment tests termly for primary seven because I am going to provide the first 100 best performers with mattresses, blankets, sheets and travel counter books.
Francis Elemut, the chairperson Akisim parish land committee said the intervention of David Ochwa the Agule county member of parliament eased everything as he pulled shs.2.9 million towards the survey of the land which is a prerequisite.
Joseph Oulo one of the parish council members said what Ochwa did has rubbished all the propaganda virally spread in social media that the church is denying the sub county land yet the problem has been how to raise the money for survey before the school is constructed.
“The church gave land to Akisim II primary school free of charge and has done the same to the secondary. As a church we had no money for surveying but glory be to God that Ochwa came to our rescue unlike others who take development as politics in their platforms,” Oullo said.
Yoweri Tukei, a business man at Akisim trading center said they have been registering a high dropout rate of students and unwanted pregnancies as girls trek long distances to Agule high school, Kibale SS or Kameke which are five kilometers from the interior of Akisim.
“This school is going to serve the communities of Okisiran bordering Kumi and Ngora, Omalutan and Apetete at the extreme end towards Kibale and Opadoi bordering Pallisa and Kaukura sub counties.”
Ambrose Okello the LC3 of Akisim sub county thanked Ochwa for his kindness to help the sub county acquire a secondary school under the church of Uganda as a foundation body.
Okello said the sub county had no source of getting the required 2.9 million but it has been a very good unexpected intervention from Ochwa.
“This school is going to serve all of us regardless of our political affiliation . I would like to thank the Bukedi diocese for the love they have exhibited to us,” Okello said.
The Pallisa deputy RDC Hajjat Aisha Nakusi hailed Ochwa for the support he has given both government and the community.
Nakusi said leaders such as Ochwa should be maintained in their positions if the community is to benefit.
“This MP has his domestic problems that need the money he has injected here given 2.9million for survey, spending over 3 millions in feeding and giving back transport should not be under looked,” Nakusi said.
Reverend John Patrick Ekaalet, the parish priest of Akisim said after the entire land is surveyed, the five acre piece is going to be given for the school as church founded.
