Entebbe: LC3 boss chickens out of MP race 

The LC3 Chairperson for Entebbe Division ‘A’ , Scholastica Najjemba Baguma, has bowed out of the Entebbe Municipality member of Parliament race . Coward Najjemba who had earlier announced her candidature for Entebbe Municipality Member of parliament seat, has finally pulled out of the race just a few months to the party primaries. So far, the Entebbe Municipality Member of parliament seat has attracted seven candidates, who include NRM stalwart Jovia Tugume Namaara, Steven Gashaija Shyka, FDC’s John Socratis Mugabi, Dp’s Vincent De Paul Kayanja, Joyce Nabatta Namuli(NUP), Stuart Lubwama(NUP) and incumbent legislator Micheal Kakembo Mbwatekamwa(NUP reject).

Sources told us that Ms.Scholastica Najjemba decided to step down from the MP race after she realized she could not compete with both Hon. Jovia Tugume Namaara and MP flop Steven Shyka Gashaija  in the impending NRM party primaries. Now the battle for NRM party ticket is between Jovia Namaara Tugume and Steven Shyka Gashaija, who was thoroughly thumped in the 2021 parliamentary elections. 

Sources add that Najjemba is baffled after she had earlier recommended former Division  ‘A’ Assistant Town Clerk Godfrey Kiryowa to succeed her in the 2026 local council 3 elections.

Though Najjemba has renewed her interest to retain her LC3 seat , candidate Kiryowa is unwilling to withdraw from the NRM party primaries, and is determined to grab the party flag from her. The two have been joined in the race for NRM party ticket by Mr. Kenneth Mwebaze, who is busy on the ground mobilizing party supporters to rally behind in upcoming party primaries and 2026 general elections.

Murmurings indicate that Scholastica Najjemba is in talks with her fellow competitors in the party primaries to allow her carry the NRM flag for another term which she says is her last term.

Ms.Najjemba who also struggled to beat NUP’s Andrew Kagwa Wani in the 2021 elections, she is still worried of the political threat he poses in the LC3 race. Sources disclosed that if Najjemba had not applied some magic , she would not have won NUP’s Andrew Kagwa Wani who emerged victorious in most of the major polling stations. However,  the final electoral results were not in his favor.
