The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has launched a whistleblower campaign dubbed “Protect Your Future”, aimed at empowering employees to report employers who fail to remit statutory social security contributions.

According to NSSF Managing Director Patrick Ayota, the campaign aims at strengthening a collaboration between the Fund and its members to hold non-compliant employers accountable and recover the contributions together with interest for the affected staff members.
The upgraded system is intended to protect whistleblowers, improve NSSF’s compliance rate, and safeguard workers’ future savings where the initiative is a revamped web-based platform that will enable members to anonymously report defaulting employers.

The platform is to allow government labor inspectors to report government contractors who fail to remit social security contributions. After an initial review, employers are given an opportunity to voluntarily comply and clear arrears. Those who refuse face enforcement measures, including prosecution.
“By creating willingness to save, the campaign is part of the broader strategy to encourage a stronger savings culture among workers, maximizing coverage and contributions by putting in place an ecosystem
of services designed to stimulate and enhance the uptake of voluntary contributions,” Mr. Ayota said. The Fund assured their subscribers that the whistleblower-driven approach will ensure compliance, strengthen worker protection, and reinforce public confidence in the national social security system.
