The police at Kireka Police Station have so far recorded statements from two people as it scrutinises circumstances under which a six-year old was killed by unknown people.
Jameson Ssempereza, 6, a Top Class pupil at Good Choice kindergarten in Kireka was sent to buy soda by a person not known to him. The young boy did not return.
Earlier, Ssempereza and his brother Godrick Ssempereza, 8, had been sent by their mother Esther Nambafu, a market vendor at Kireka Farmers’ market, to fetch water.
However, only the eight-year old returned, and probed, he said his brother had been sent by ‘someone’ to buy Pepsi.
Attempts to find the younger Ssempereza had proved futile until this morning, when Nambafu got the news of his death.
“One of the vendors discovered a body of a young boy hidden behind a wooden table at Kireka farmer’s market. When Nambafu got the news, she responded and confirmed that the deceased was her son Ssempereza. Upon visiting the scene, it was discovered that the deceased was cut on the neck using a sharp object and lost blood to death,” a source privy to the on-going investigation said.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the incident, saying an investigation into the matter has commenced.
“Our officers have visited the scene and an investigation instituted Vide CRB 060/2019. The Canine was introduced to the scene to trace for the culprits but it was fruitless. However, the sketch plan was drawn and still photos taken. As we do that, we are interviewing witnesses to help in investigation. No one has been arrested so far but we will, definitely,” he said.
Ssempereza’s body was retrieved and taken to Mulago hospital mortuary for postmortem.
