The police at the Central Police Station, Lira are investigating circumstances under which a Caterpillar belonging to White Coaches knocked dead a 23-year old woman and her baby at 8pm on Wednesday evening.
The road equipment registration number UAZ 576Z was reportedly operating with a torch as it worked Lira-Apac road last night.
Subsequently, it knocked dead Vicky Amongi and her daughter, Julian Adong.
North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson David Ongom-Mudong confirmed the incident.
“Investigations surrounding the incident has been instituted within the traffic guidelines majorly to find out why the grader was doing the work at night without lights that ending up causing such an accident,” Mudong said.
According to Mudong, bodies of the victims are at the Lira Regional Referral Hospital awaiting postmortem. The Carterpillar, he said is parked at their yard near White House in lira Town pending transportation to the CPS.
A matter Vide TAR 19/2019 has been filed as further inquiries in to the matter continue.
