The police are investigating circumstances under which Private William Baaka shot at a civilian who later died from Mulago Hospital.
Baaka is said to have shot at David Oketch in order to ‘disable’ him after the deceased suspiciously took off during a security operation.
Oketch later died of excessive bleeding on arrival at Mulago Hospital.
Baaka has been arrested to help in investigation.
Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed arrest of Baaka but said he could not divulge much as he said the matter was already under investigation.
We have however understood that a bar at Kavule House in Ndejje had earlier reached out to the police for intervention on an emergency.
It is then that a joint team of the police and the army stormed the said bar.
Two men were however exiting the bar before taking off after noticing security prescence.
“Private Baaka chased Oketch. He was alone while he chased the deceased. I think in an attempt to disable Oketch, he shot at him but the deceased over bled and later died,” a source who was part of the operation said.
The matter is being probed Vide CRB 52/2019.
