Hajji Jaffer Kawuki is no longer the Chairman Ntungamo Muslim District Council.
This after an impeachment petition against him by the Ntungamo Muslim District Joint Committee on March 13, 2019.
The reasons for his impeachment included breach of oath of secrecy and abuse of office and connivance with intention to divide Muslims of Ntungamo Muslim District among others.
Said Bukenya has been named as the caretaker for the next three months.
Hajji Nsereko Mutumba, the Public Relations Officer, Uganda Muslim Supreme Council confirmed dropping of Kawuki.
“On receipt of the petition, the District Kadhi Ntungamo Muslim District Sheikh Swalleh Kashangirwe acting inline with article 9(4) of the UMSC constitution sent Hajji Jaffer Kawuki a letter of suspension as well as a letter inviting him to appear before the Joint Committee and defend himself against the allegations in petition on 27th March 2019. He however never appeared nor sent an apology for his failure to turn up. The members of the Joint Committee therefore resolved that his impeachment be upheld since the grounds against him were valid, and that Hon. Said Bukenya become the Care-Taker District Chairman for a period of 3 months to allow the District for the election of a new substantive Ntungamo Muslim District Council Chairman,” Nsereko said.
