At least 80 police officers have deserted the force.
they include; 25 sergeants, 37 corporals and 28 constables.
A police notice connects this story.
“..the following personnel, who were reported (absent without leave) by various units are hereby declared deserters. If seen, they should be arrested and respective unit commanders should inform police headquarters for collection.” Part of the notice authored by ACP Emmanual Muheirwe reads.
Desertion from police is an offense and attracts a one year imprisonment, according to Police Act.
According to Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, the officers spent 21 days without reporting for work or have not given reasons for their absence.
“The affected officers will be struck off the payroll this month,” Enanga told the Daily Monitor Tuesday. The officers, he said were part of the 850 officers sent to the police school as instructors. This, however, he said, will not affect training.
