Makerere University has Thursday afternoon suspended exams earlier scheduled for Friday and Saturday. In a statement, the University said new dates shall be communicated. Whereas the institution declined to reveal what exactly caused the postponement, this news site has learnt that the postponement followed an incident in which a stray bullet hit a student on campus Thursday afternoon. The student, a final year student of Bachelor of Education has only been identified as Winnie. She was reportedly going about her business near her hall of residence, Mary Stuart, when a stray bullet hit her on the leg.
Against the above background, the administration decided that exams be suspended so as to give room to assess the situation.
“Look, the demos were not on campus. But this girl, minding her business near Mary Stuart, her hall of residence was hit,” a source said adding, “the suspension will help us analyze the situation better on what next to do.”
We have also learnt the Law Development Centre has suspended exams until February 2021.
