Cabinet approves Governing Board of NIRA

Cabinet sitting at Entebbe State House yesterday approved the appointment of the Chairperson and other seven members of the Governing Board of the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA), according to Ofwono Opondo, the government Spokesperson and Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre (UMC).

Addressing journalists at UMC in Kampala on Tuesday, Opondo said Mr Joseph N. Biribonwa was selected as Chairperson of the Board. Biribonwa is a seasoned expert in democracy and governance, management and administration, finance and corporate governance, with over forty (40) years of professional experience. He is the Vice Chairperson of Victoria University Council.

Ms Ruth Nvumetta L.M.Kavuma – Vice-Chairperson
Dr Betty Kivumbi Nannyonga – Member
Maj. Gen. Apollo Kasita-Gowa – Representative of
the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control
Mr James Saaka – Representative of NITA (U)
Mr Bemanya Twebaze – Representative of the Uganda Registration Services Bureau
Dr Paul Kintu – Representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs
Dr Chris Ndatira Mukiza – Representative of Uganda Bureau of Statistics.

Opondo further told journalists that Cabinet yesterday  as well approved the appointment of 12 Members of the Board of Directors for the National Animal Genetic Resources Center (NAGRC) and Data Bank as follows;
Dr Johnson Nkuuhe – Chairperson (Livestock specialist and consultant)
Dr Juliet Sentumbwe – Member (Director Animal Resources)
Mr Paul Ssekyewa – Member (Representative of the Fish breeders)
Dr Herman Sekiwunga – Member (Representative of the Animal breeders)
Dr. James Oluka – Member (Representative of the National Agriculture Research Organization)
Eng. Ssenozi Robert – Member (Representative of Farmers in the Central region)
Dr Kibeedi Kabral – Member (Representative of Farmers in the Eastern region)
Mr Ben Anyama – Member (Representative of Farmers in the Northern region)
Ms Loice Biira Bwambale – Member (Representative of Farmers in the Western region)
Ms. Teddy Alako – Member (Representative of the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development)

Dr. Richard Akule – Member (Representative of the Uganda National Artificial Insemination Technicians Association)
