Perhaps reaffirming what the public is already uncomfortable with about the Uganda Police Force, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has today said the corruption is one of the biggest challenges the institution is faced with.
Martins Okoth Ochola made the revelation while addressing Regional Police Commanders, Heads of Specialized Units and Directors at the Senior Command and Staff College in Bwebajja on Monday morning.
“The institution encounters a number of challenges that include and not limited to corruption,” Okoth Ochola said.
He further noted: “Corrupt practices of selling police services like police bond, police forms, K9, criminalization of civil matters and extortion on roads.’
Among other challenges, Ochola said, are indiscipline, violation of human rights and laxity in handling assignments.
He, however, noted that transforming Uganda Police Force “into a professional force” entails team work, positive mental orientation and patriotism among others.
