Kanyeihamba: What exactly happened at his Buziga residence

By Francis Otucu

Media reports earlier showed that retired Judge, Prof. George Kanyeihamba was held hostage by guard at his residence.

The police came out to deny Kanyeihamba’s claims.

However, new details show that the sickly professor wanted to disarm his guard.

Sources say a police guard at his residence lost a father.

The said guard is said to have requested his principal, Prof. Kanyeihamba to allow him go for burial.
Insiders say Kanyeihamba ordered the guard to handover the gun to him, which he (guard) refused.

It is then that Kanyeihamba ordered his servants to lock the gate and not let the ‘resistant’ guard out claiming he was being held hostage at own house.

The police guard is then said to have phoned his superiors who rushed to bis work station.

It is then that he handed over the gun to his bosses.

Another guard was also deployed to cover for him.

In an interview Friday evening, Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesma, Luke Owoyesigyire said Police standing  order does not allow police officer to hand over his firearm to unauthorised persons.

He therefore described the incident at Kanyeihamba’s residence as minor and unfortunate.

“The guard got a pass to go and bury his father. Prof. Kanyeihamba got a new guard. Therefore, rumours circulating that the Retired Justice was held hostage are untrue,” Owoyesigyire said.
