Sexually weak men warned as dangerous “manpower” herbs sell on local market

By George Mangula

Two local herbal making companies have been selling dangerous herbal medicine meant to boost men’s sexual vitality while in bed with their wives and girlfriends, according to the National Drug Authority (NDA), the regulator of development and importation of medicines in Uganda.

According to NDA, VTX Enterprises Company Limited, located in Mutundwe II Zone in Rubaga Division manufactures “Embaluka Hardcore Drink”. NDA says the drink manufactured on September 18, 2019 and expires on September 17, 2021 is dangerous to human life as it is not manufactured following set standards for herbal drinks and medicines.

David Nahamya, Secretary to NDA says another dangerous drug meant to boost men’s sexual power is on the local market. He names the drug as “Mega Power” manufactured by Kagwa Health Research Centre located in Nakawa, with upcountry offices in Arua. Nahamya says the drug was manufactured on January 23, 2019 and is supposed to expire on January 23, 2022.

He says “Mega Power” packed in a plastic bottle, is a concoction of local herbs and Sildenafil Citrate, which poses danger to men who swallow it a bid to boost their sexual prowess. “It is not safe to use it,” Nahamya says.

NDA urges all herbalists and patients to desist from using any herbal medicine not approved by it. Further, the Authority says patients should buy herbs from licenced drug shops and pharmacies and avoid buying herbs from hawkers.

Fake HIV/AIDs herbal medicine also on market

A few herbalists this reporter has interacted with claim some of their colleagues mix herbs with ARVs and sell the concoction as herbal medicine to treat HIV/AIDS. “They sell it to people who fear to go hospitals for proper medication,” one herbalist who preferred to remain anonymous said.

“I have a friend who was doing the same in South Africa. He was deported after it emerged he was a fake herbalist,” he said, adding that herbalists selling the so-called HIV/AIDS treating herbs do not publicise such herbs for fear of being apprehended by authorities like NDA and the police .
