The Head of Community Policing Department, ACP Anatoli Muleterwa, has pitch-camped in the Karamoja sub-region to embark on a Community policing engagement with the locals and local leaders with the aim of reassuring the region of peace and stability.
This initiative is among the interventions being conducted in the region with support from the European Union under the Development for Northern Uganda (DINU) coordinated by the Office of the Prime Minister.
Earlier today, the team met with the locals at Lokitelaebu Town Council in Kotido district.
We have however learnt that the issues in the region include animal raids, domestic violence, alcoholism and street children among others.
For this reasons, the team is camped in Karamoja in a bid to preach against the vices.
While meeting locals of Lokitelaebu, Muleterwa asked the region to stop domestic violence and find better ways of settling disputes. Sources say that Karamoja tops in matters of domestic violence. According to further sources, the violence comes with alcoholism. To this, Muleterwa warned against domestic violence and alcoholism and appealed to residents to find better ways of settling disputes.
Muleterwa also asked raiders to surrender when their is still room for the same, lest they face the full wrath of both security and the law.
On the issue of streets kids, ACP Muleterwa warned against procuring and any connivance to send children to the streets. He said acts of sending children to the streets is criminal.
ACP Muleterwa is with a team of senior officers from the Directorate of Research, Planning and Development.
