Three people have been confirmed dead following an accident at Kalisizo last evening.
The deceased have been identified as Elias Kibule, 30, John Kasawuli and Muhammad Katumba.
The trio was occupants of a Canter truck registration number UBD 074M that lost control before overturning in a swamp at 5:00pm.
Locals who responded to the scene went for rice instead.
Regional police spokesman, Paul Kangave confirmed the accident.
He showed concern over a manner in which responders reacted.
Part of the stolen rice Kangave said has been recovered.
“The truck was carrying rice from Mutukula heading towards Masaka when it overturned at Jongoza, Kalisizo in Kyotera. The locals that responded at the scene took most of the bags of rice,” Kangave said adding, “We managed to rescue a few bags.”
Kangave said bodies of deceased have been taken to Kalisizo hospital for postmortem while the truck has been towed to Kalisizo parking yard pending inspection.
The matter has been recorded Vide TAR 22/2019 of Kyotera.
