Deputy Operation Wealth Creation Coordinator, Lt. Gen. Charles Angina has tactfully declined to comment on his exchange with Security Minister Gen. Elly Tumwine.

In an interview with New Vision’s David Lumu, Lt. Gen. Angina said he does respect his elders.

The supposed interview followed a face-off with Security Minister Gen. Tumwine in an upscale residence of Muyenga, a Kampala posh suburb.

The moment captured on an amateur camera, Angina kept replying, “yes, sir,” to Tumwine’s caution as the four-star general fumed, “Why do it at night and not during the day?  Do not abuse our forces. Have you heard? We all have wrangles and disagreements, but we do not use the force like this. We have worked so hard to preserve the image of our force and this is a small matter that should be handled amicably. It should have been Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) doing enforcement, not you.”

This, in relation to the destruction of city businessman Godfrey Kirumira’s perimeter wall.

Tumwine said his actions were contrary to the code of conduct of the UPDF.

He cautioned Angina against dragging the army and Police into personal conflicts. 

“I received a call that Angina, together with the Kampala Metropolitan Police Field Forces Commander, senior superintendent of Police, Rashid Agero, had brought graders at 3:00am and were destroying a hotel wall belonging to Kirumira,” Tumwine justified his bitterness with his junior.

The army has meanwhile pledged to handle the matter between two senior officers.

“NRA/UPDF has always relied upon its trusted methods of work while handling such contradictions.  This will equally be sorted out accordingly,” Army spokesman, Brig. Richard Karemire told the New Vision.
