UCU student arrested for kidnapping himself for Shs22m ransom

Kampala Metropolitan Police/East has in custody Herbert Akampamya, 24, a first year student of Uganda Christian University (UCU) for allegedly giving false information to a public officer.

According to the parents, Akampamya phoned them yesterday informing them of how he had been kidnapped by unknown people and that his kidnappers were demanding for Shs22 million ransom for his release.

However, after a probe, it emerged he had faked his kidnap and as such, he was picked by a grasshopper from his hideout at Sydney Apartments in Mukono Municipality on Friday.

He is currently detained at Jinja Road Police Station on charges of giving false information to a public officer.
