In a formal communication issued Tuesday afternoon, NBS TV said the media house is committed to co-operating with authorities in regard to a case of sedition slapped against news anchor and reporter, Samson Kasumba.
According to NBS TV, Kasumba was arrested around 10:20pm as he retired home after 9pm bulletin.
“He was held at Kira Road Police Station throughout the night after being intercepted by operatives that we have since learnt were crime intelligence officers, who had mounted a roadblock right outside our premises,” Desire Derekford Mugumisa’s NBS TV’s PR & Communications Officer said in a statement, guessing charges Vs Kasumba, “We have also learnt that at the point of his arrest last night, the crime intelligence officers told him they were arresting him for sedition.”
Earlier, the police said Kasumba’s arrest is not in any way related to his job at NBS TV or even as a journalist.
“As police, we want to confirm that Samson Kasumba of NBS TV is under arrest. He was picked yesterday evening as he was heading back home. He is a subject of investigation and it’s not connected in any way to his journalistic work,” Police spokesman, Fred Enanga said adding that, “Our experts from the Electoral and Political Offenses Department managed to interrogate and interview Samson Kasumba. We are going to search different areas of interest today with him.”
By press time, investigators were at Kasumba Naalya home for a search.
