Medic waylaid, killed, gov’t motorbike taken

The police are continuing to probe circumstances under which a senior clinical officer in charge of Pabo Health Centre III, Amuru district and resident of Lajok Olwiyo Village, Pangu Parish, Alero Sub-County was waylaid, thumped dead and government motorbike he was riding taken.

Sources say the incident in which Wilfred Okello, 56, was killed happened 5pm on May 10, 2020.

“The victim (deceased) left his home at around 5:30pm to see the Chairman LC II, Pangu Parish. However, on his way back, he met a group of people who had blocked the village path with a log. They emerged from the bush, beat him up, killing him instantly. They robbed him of a government motorcycle Reg. No. UG 5794M (Yamaha, red in color) which he was riding. His body was dumped in a nearby bush,” a police source said.

Five people have been arrested to help with the investigations while the motorbike has also been recovered.

Findings show that the deceased and suspects have been having a long standing land wrangle, appearing before the chief magistrates court on five different criminal case files with the latest being on May 7, 2020 where the suspect’s mother was remanded to Prison.

By press time Okello’s body was at Anaka Hospital pending postmortem as further inquiries Vide CRB 441/2020 of the Central Police Station, Nwoya, continues.
