BUSHENYI WOMAN MP RACE: One Candidate, Two Names

By Francis Otucu

LIVING IN FEAR! Bushenyi Woman Member of Parliament aspirant Katusiime Annet Mugisha is living under fear of being dragged to court over her double names.

This after it emerged that Katusiime, a wife to National Water and Sewerage corporation (NWSC) boss Dr. Silver Mugisha, is also known as Musoga Annet. These details are contained in her nomination papers before the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission.

The Second Opinion website has learnt that this matter has already thrown the NRM Electoral Commission in disarray, with fears rife that the mix-up could cost them in the general elections

To allay tshis fear, well-placed sources say, NRM EC Chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi recently wrote to the National Identification Registration Authority (NIRA) to ascertain the legality of the change in name.

“This is therefore, to request you to clarify from your records as to whether correct procedure was followed by the said person to effect the change of name,” Dr. Odoi’s August 26, 2020 letter to NIRA Executive Director, reads, in part.

Earlier, Katusiime had written to NIRA through her lawyers for assurance.

“The purpose of this letter is to humbly request you to issue a clarification as to whether the right procedure was followed in re-arranging the names on her National ID,” part of Katusiime’s letter to NIRA through her lawyers of Turinawe, Kamba & Co. Advocates reads.

This news site understands that Katusiime instead attached a deed poll, Gazette and statutory declaration. She, however, got the assurance. “The matter was handled as change of order of names as stated in the application Form 1,” in part reads Ag. Director NIRA Brig. Stephen Kwiringira’s, reply that was written on September 1, 2020. Katusiime is battling General Duties Minister Mary Karoro Okurut for the NRM party flag in today’s polls.
