Acting as follow up of the August 26, 2020 meeting at the NRM Electoral Commission offices, Kyadondo Road, Kampala, Commission boss, Dr. Tanga Odoi, has written to ABNO Advocates and Abaine-Buregyeya & Co. Advocates regarding the eligibility of George Abudul’s nomination as Youth MP Aspirant – Northern Region.
“The Commission under MIN.NRM EC 056/2020 decided to denominate Mr. Abudul George for NRM Primaries Youth Member of Parliament Northern Region on grounds that Mr. Abudul George does not meet the requisite age requirement to participate in the afore mentioned Youth Elections,” Dr. Odoi’s letter reads in part.

Abno Advocates and Abaine-Buregyeya & Co. Advocates are representatives of the petitioners Vs Abudul.
In the October 1, 2020 letter, the NRM boss gave reasons for denominating Abudul.
“It was the Commission’s finding that in 2016; Mr. Abudul George participated in the election as Youth MP for Northern with the National Electoral Commission as an Independent candidate where he declared his age as being 29 years. He further submitted documents of UACE from Dr Obote College Boroboro 2008 which shows his age to be at 22 years. Mr. Abudul further submitted his National Identity card with No.xxxxxxxxxxxxx (withheld for professional reasons) indicating his date of birth to be 6th October 1986, which would place him at 33 years old today. That the same Abudul George caused change of his date of birth from 6th October 1986 to 6th October 1991. The Commission finds that for Abudul George to claim that he is 29 years old, it would mean that he started school at the age of 3 years which is practically impossible. It would also not tally with all his academic documentation stating he was 29 years, 4 years ago. Mr. Abudul George amended his age details to be able to amend his voter registration details so as to lower his age to 29, the same age he was in 2016, 4 years ago,” Dr. Odi explained.
To this, Dr. Odoi qualified Abudul’s denomination: “The Commission notes that to keep Mr. Abudul George in the race for NRM Primaries Youth Member of Parliament would cause unnecessary embarrassment to the NRM as all documents he submitted before are consistent with him being born in 1986. By copy of this communication, the Respondent M/s ALTO Advocates C/o Mr. Abudul George is informed accordingly.”
