Journalists Shun Police  Press Briefing In Kampala

By Abraham Lincolns
Naguru

Journalists in Kampala have shunned a press briefing today  at Naguru police headquarters where police bosses hold press conferences every Monday of the week.

Police attempted to cancel today’s media briefing at Naguru due to a blackout by journalists, who are protesting the mistreatment of their colleagues by the men in uniform..

This comes after several journalists were beaten, arrested, and had their equipment destroyed while covering the recently concluded Kawempe North Parliamentary by-election.

While at Kazo Angola polling station, a number of journalists fully clad in press jackets were handpicked, beaten, arrested and thrown in drones with their gadgets completely smashed.
The journalists demand that the police address these issues before they resume covering security
events.

“Since our colleagues were treated like animals, the police have never made any statement explaining why they behave that way, a journalist made a statement with anonymity.

This is not the first time journalists have faced violence while doing their job, with at least 14 journalists were arrested and beaten in October 2023 while covering the return of the National Unity Platform president at Entebbe Airport.

However, the CDF .Gen. Mohoozi Kainerugaba  over the weekend went on his x handle and apologised to the media for the mess.
