A section of elders from Buganda Kingdom, composed of former kingdom prime ministers, made a visual statement endorsing their own grandson ahead of the official presidential campaigns for the 2026-2031 general elections.

The former Prime Ministers and some clan leaders of Mbogo clan where Kyagulanyi roots from were led by former premier Joseph Mulwanyamuli Ssemwogerere paid a visit to Kyagulanyi at his home of Magere on Sunday afternoon to officially endorse him as their next president.

According to political analysis, Buganda Kingdom now no longer backs their own people behind curtains. Though the elders didn’t issue a public statement, but their tactical endorsement was viewed as highly symbolic when they handed over the Uganda coat of arms (Shield and a spear), a symbol representing the willingness to defend the people of Uganda.
In his appreciative message on his social media handles, Kyagulanyi expressed his happiness for hosting such rare dignitaries where he noted that their visit is a blessing in the forthcoming elections.
“It was such an honour to host our elders for a meal and prayer. Awo tuba tusimbudde! (There we get going) Kyagulanyi wrote.

Kyagulanyi has for long criticized Buganda Kingdom and other cultural leaders, religious leaders and the Uganda Human Rights Commission for keeping silent when Ugandans and Baganda are persecuted, imprisoned and brutalized without their voices raised against the acts.
Kyagulanyi has also been pushing for support from the Buganda Kingdom where he has been blaming them for being used by other people to fight him.

According to political experts, the current Katikiro Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga wasn’t part of the delegation, it’s a clear indication that Buganda has endorsed Kyagulanyi.
Others in the delegation include former premier Owek. Daniel Muliika, former premier Owek. Israel Mayengo, Owek. Kayiira Gajjola, the head of the Mbogo clan.

Today, Uganda’s main opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu aka Bobi Wine would launch his 2026 presidential campaign in Jinja, at St. Gonzaga Gonza primary school, Kagoma in Jinja district where he will spend a week-long tour of Eastern Uganda.
