Glovo Uganda Reinforces Commitment to Rider Safety and Welfare

Kampala, Uganda, September 24, 2026 – Glovo Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and wellbeing of the rider community in the country, highlighting a growing range of initiatives designed to support them both on and off the road.

The commitment was highlighted during a recent Rider Safety Event in Kampala, in which Michael Kamoga, Road Safety Officer at the Ministry of Works and Transport, and Ssenabulya Richard from Kampala Boda Boda Association leadership, along with Brendon Njoroge, Operations Manager at Glovo Uganda, shared their approach to practical safety engagement, awareness and education to riders attending this in-person event. This initiative is part of Glovo Uganda’s broader efforts to make safety a priority for riders.

For Glovo, riders are an essential part of the platform’s ecosystem, connecting customers with restaurants, shops and other businesses across Uganda. As the rider community continues to grow, the company reaffirms its commitment to providing safety awareness through rider safety in-person training, through technology via the rider safety feature, and supporting riders’ broader welfare through insurance coverage.

“At Glovo, riders are essential to the company’s operations and play an important role in Uganda’s growing digital economy. Every day, riders navigate Kampala’s roads to connect customers and businesses, demonstrating commitment, resilience and hard work,” said Brendon Njoroge, Operations Manager, Glovo Uganda. “Road safety in Uganda must always remain a continuous priority, supported through practical education, awareness and tools that encourage safer riding behaviours,” added Brendon.

Beyond road safety, Glovo Uganda has continued to expand initiatives aimed at supporting riders’ wider wellbeing and development. These include valuable insurance support, as well as language and skills courses designed to create opportunities for personal and professional development.

Boda Boda Association Security Chairperson for Kampala Ssenabulya Richard, who is also a rider, appreciated the riders for heeding to Glovo’s call for safety training. 

“As riders, we understand the importance of safety because we are on the road every day. What is valuable is having support that goes beyond simply telling riders to be safe. We welcome continued engagement between riders, Glovo and other stakeholders so that our welfare and needs always remain part of the conversation.”

The event follows a similar rider safety initiative held in May 2026, where Glovo introduced a new rider safety feature within the rider app, designed to give riders greater visibility into their riding behaviour. The feature is intended to help riders identify behaviours that may increase risk and encourage safer riding practices. Such initiatives are testament to Glovo’s use of technology to support safer riding. Glovo plans to conclude this year’s safety riding program with a third cohort in December 2026, while continuing to explore further road safety initiatives and engagement opportunities in 2027.

Through these initiatives, Glovo aims to continue empowering riders with relevant information, training and technology that can support safer decision-making on the road.
