Two Perish as Nine Sustain Injuries Along Kayunga-Jinja Road Fatal Accident.

A fatal accident along Kayunga-Jinja Road in Kayunga District has claimed two people leaving nine others sustaining severe injuries.

According to Ssezibwa Region Police spokesperson SP Hellen Butoto, a Toyota Hiace taxi, registration number UAW 058J, reportedly rammed into the rear of a Tata lorry, registration number UBR 835Y, both travelling from Kayunga towards Jinja.

The incident happened at Seeta-Nyize in Kangulumira Town Council when a Toyota Hiace taxi, registration number UAW 058J, reportedly rammed into the rear of a Tata lorry, registration number UBR 835Y. Butoto said the Toyota Hiace collided with the rear of the Tata lorry, killing two occupants and injuring nine others.

The deceased have been identified as Martin Mubiru and Fred Wanguwu, both residents of Nazigo in Kayunga District. Nine of the injured victims have been identified as Reagan Genga, Moses Kiiza, Jackson Ojambo, David Ibeli, Rukia Amoit, Manjeri Erumbi, Julius Kasubi and an unidentified baby.

Kasubi, a resident of Kangulumira, was reportedly among people who responded to the accident scene. By press time, the injured victims were rushed to Kangulumira Health Centre IV for treatment, while one critically injured victim was transferred to Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital for further management.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Kayunga mortuary pending postmortem examinations. The two vehicles were towed to Kangulumira Police Station, where they will undergo inspection as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police said the driver of the Toyota Hiace was among those killed, while the driver of the Tata lorry reportedly fled the scene and is being sought.

Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing, with police expected to provide further details as the inquiry progresses.
