By Francis Otucu

The police in Kampala have kicked off a hunt for armed men who raid City Supermarket in Mpererwe before putting attendants at gun point.

Eyewitnesses say six men armed with an SMG approached the said supermarket at 9pm last night while moving on three numberless motorcycles.

“They shot and injured 1068 Okot Pilson who tried to confront them. He is  attached to Tight security. After that they later forced their way inside the super market,  put every one on gun point and robbed an unspecified amount of cash,” an eyewitness said adding the attackers later moved to a nearby mobile money joint before robbing Shs4.5m.

“After the robbery,  they later attacked a mobile money agent who works just next to  the supermarket and robbed her of 4.5m,” an eyewitness recounted.

Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the incident.

“999 and CID responded 15mins after receiving the call about the two incidents with 3 patrol vehicles and is actively still pursuing any leads that can lead to the arrest of these suspects, ” Owoyesigyire said.

He added that Okot was pronounced dead on arrival at Mulago Hospital.

Owoyesigyire however revealed that the guard was not armed.

“Investigations are still on going into the matter but we would like to caution the business community to always be vigilant and try target hardening measures like employing guards who are armed since it has been established that the deceased security guard wasn’t armed,” he said.
