By Francis Otucu

Territorial police in Kigezi has kicked off investigation into a cross boarder shooting that happened last evening.

The incident occurred at around 8pm, at Hamisavu trading center, Kiruhura village, Kasekye Parish, Kamwezi Sub County in Rukiga District.

Rwandan citizen identified as Peter Nyengye was shot dead while riding his motorcycles with merchandize in to Uganda. Rwandan security is said to have pursued and shot him dead about 80 meters into Uganda.  The second victim has been identified as Alex Nyesiga, a Uganda. Nyesiga is said to have intervened into the situation. Subsequently, he too was shot dead. This, sources say was after he attempted to fight for Nyengye’s life as his killers fought to lift the body from the scene so as to kill evidence. The police said the two bodies were transferred to Kamwezi Health Center IV for further post-mortem analysis. Police spokesman, Fred Enanga confirmed the incident describing it as violent and an act of impunity. “In this very instance, there was no justification for the illegal entry and use of deadly force by the Rwandan military, due to the presence of alternative, adequate and effective remedies available at our disposal,” he said. Enanga said the matter has been forwarded to the National Security Committee and Ministry of Foreign Affairs for better management.
