The Uganda Communications Commission has trained students of Mass Communication at Islamic University in Uganda.
The exercise, carried out by United in Film and Real Impact Foundation last Friday at IUIU’s Mbale was sponsored by the Eng. Godfrey Mutabazi-led Commission.
Eng. Mutabazi was represented by Paul Mukasa, the Manager Multimedia and Content Regulation, who previously served as secretary of the Media Council, among other high profile media positions.
Sources say learners, with interests in film making were trained in areas of cinematography, screenwriting, editing, sound and production and by the close of the one-week training, UCC took to the stakeholders’ sensitization workshop on the development and regulation of the film industry in Uganda, targeting video halls, cinemas, video libraries and film publishers, among others.
This, in partnership with Media Council, Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), and the Pornography Control Committee (PCC), was to raise awareness on the standards and laws that govern the film sector, especially regarding production, distribution, exhibition, classification as well the protection and enforcement of copyright.
Addressing participants last Friday at UCC headquarters in Bugolobi, Eng. Mutabazi revealed commencement of joint enforcement targeting illegal industry operators.
“The above government agencies have agreed to commence joint enforcement of all the legal requirements and industry standards by 1st October 2019, thus giving you two months to put your affairs or businesses in order,” Eng. Mutabazi announced.
