NAGIRINYA KIDNAP, MURDER: Husband gives contradicting statements

By Francis Otucu

The police are closely trying to connect two statements so far recorded by Edgar Gateni, husband to killed social worker, Maria Nagirinya.

Well-placed sources say Gateni recorded his second statement last week in relation to the kidnap and eventual murder of his wife, Nagirinya.

“His first statement was lacking. We had to resummon him for interrogation,” a source who declined to reveal detains contained in Gateni’s statement said.

Investigators this news site has interacted with say Gateni was ‘interviewed’ on whether or not he knew his wife’s relationship with Ronald Kitayimbwa, her alleged driver who was kidnapped and killed along with her on August 28, 2019.

Also, Gateni was probed on whether the deceased ever told him of threats in her life.

By the time of her killing, Nagirinya was reportedly pregnant.

Basing on the above background, investigators wanted to understand whose pregnancy it was but also to weigh in on the possibility of carry out DNA to ascertain whose pregnancy Nagirinya was carrying.

To widen further the scope of investigation, the police are trying to establish the relationship between Nagirinya and her employer, Community Integrated Development Initiative (CIDI), an NGO based at Muyenga.

There were concerns on how Nagirinya (in her 20’s) attained the position of Project Manager at that age.

Worth noting, her father, Francis Lubowa is CIDI’s board Chair.
