Asha Mafabi Nabulo Vows to Transform Sironko, Prioritize Roads, Health and Education Sectors

The NRM flag bearer for the Woman Member of Parliament seat in Sironko District, Asha Mafabi Nabulo, has outlined key challenges hindering development in the district.

Speaking during an extensive media interaction at her foundation’s office, she emphasized the urgent need for better infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

Sironko District, carved out of Mbale District in 2000, comprises 32 sub-counties and 10 town councils.

However, it continues to struggle with various hazards, including natural disasters, that have resulted in loss of lives, property damage, and livelihood destruction.

POOR ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE

Nabulo stressed that Sironko, despite being a major food basket for Eastern Uganda and neighboring countries like Kenya and South Sudan, suffers from poor road infrastructure.

The bad roads not only delay the transportation of agricultural produce but also contribute to post-harvest losses for farmers.

HEALTHCARE CHALLENGES

Access to healthcare remains a critical issue, particularly for pregnant women who have to travel long distances for maternity services.

The difficult terrain and poor road network further worsen the situation, leading to avoidable loss of lives.

EDUCATION SETBACKS

Since its separation from Mbale District, Sironko has experienced poor academic performance.
According to Nabulo, many bright students are unable to access schools due to the long distances they have to walk daily.

The lack of proper sensitization on government programs has also contributed to widespread poverty in the district.

A VISION FOR CHANGE

“As a young, energetic leader with the heart of my people at the forefront, I am committed to lobbying for better services,” Nabulo stated.

She pledged to work closely with the area’s Members of Parliament to ensure development projects are effectively implemented.

She also highlighted her ongoing efforts to uplift the community, including supporting teenage mothers, sponsoring vulnerable youths at the Mbale Presidential Industrial Hub in Lukhonge for skills training, drilling boreholes, and assisting people affected by natural disasters.

EMPOWERING THE YOUTH

Nabulo emphasized the need for job creation, particularly for the youth who make up the majority of the district’s population.

She vowed to advocate for the establishment of factories in Sironko to provide employment opportunities for skilled youth.

“If elected, I will work hand in hand with the MPs of Budadiri East and West to ensure that Sironko’s challenges become history.

Our people deserve to enjoy their district and be proud of it, not to curse it every day,” she affirmed.
