Balunywa Makes U-turn on Uganda airlines

By Francis Otucu

The controversial Makerere University Business School Principal, Waswa Balunywa has made U-turn on revamping Uganda Airlines.

Balunywa who admitted to have been part of the team that recommended the ‘dismantling’ of the airline in the 80s said he is now ready to reconsider his ‘decision decades later.

“I was part of the team that recommended the dismantling of the public enterprises in the country in the 1980s. I was also a member of the Board of Uganda Airlines and the last Chairman of the Board,” he said.

However, he has now said:  “The country is relaunching the airline and I am now bound by collective wisdom to support it despite my personal views on strategy. What will make a difference will be management!”

He however said efficiency in decision making and good strategy will be key.

Unfortunately, he said: “We relaunch at a time when personal desire for money supersedes desire organizational results. This may be the organizations Waterloo.”

On Monday, a team led by Works and Transport Minister, Monica Azuba received the first two CRJ900 aircrafts at a ceremony in Canada. The aircrafts are to land at Entebbe International airport at 3pm on April 23, 2019.
