The police at the Central Police Station, Rukiga has in custody their own over attempted murder by shooting.
This, after No 59480 PC Alex Twongyeirwe attached to Kamwezi Police Station shot in the leg, a UPDF officer, No RA 238749 SGT David Mperize, 22, following a disagreement in a bar at Kabirizi, Kigala in Kamwezi sub-county at 10pm on March 7, 2020.
Sources say the disagreement that ended in a shooting was parked off by a woman in the same bar.
The shooting, however, happened hours later-morning of March 8, 2020.
“The victim had gone to charge his mobile phone. It is then when he met the suspect (Twongyeirwe) while was armed and in police uniform. They exchanged bitterly and that’s when he decided to shoot him,” a source said.
Rukiga police say the suspect is in custody for interrogation while rifle, No. UG POL 565830383-28903 with 29 rounds of live ammunitions was recovered and exhibited and that Mperize, a UPDF soldier attached to Makenke Army barracks in Mbarara, was rushed to Rushebeya Clinic for medical attention and is in stable condition.
The matter is being probed Vide CRB 043/2020/Rukiga.
