Boda riders want corona virus preventive guidelines Translated into Vernacular

By Our Reporter

Boda boda riders in Mbarara have implored government to translate the Corona Virus preventive guidelines to Runyakole and other local languages, a local dialect understood by most of them.

According to the riders, the translated messages will help in the effective dissemination of information in respect to the coronavirus that has ravaged over 100 countries across the globe, leading to thousands of deaths.

Government has so far released preventive guidelines in the English language, in an attempt to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection, but according to Sergious Owokunda Salongo, the Chairperson Boda Bodas in Mbarara Municipality, the authorities usually forget that the illiterate people also need to be sensitized about the deadly pandemic.

Owokunda also implored his colleagues to buy disinfectants and to stop carrying more than one person to avoid close contact that may lead to contracting the disease.
Reacting to the development, the health ministry spokesperson Emmanuel Ainebyoona, said translations into various languages were being carried out by the ministry of health in conjunction with other stakeholders.
