Book Aid International, a UK registered charity organization has in a partnership donated 2, 077 books to Amka Community Library.
The donation of books each costing an average of Shs30, 000 was March 11, 2019.
Amka Community Group administrator, James Bakabulindi confirmed receipt of the donation.
“We were honored to receive the donation last week. As we talk, we are in the process of stamping. We will then go on to refurbish the entire library, make new shelves and re-open the library to the public officially sometime this year,” Bakabulindi said.
He explained though that: “That does not mean that we are closing as we re-organize. We remain open Monday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm eberyday.”
In an interview with the group’s vision bearer, Geofrey Mugisha, he described as timely the donation, adding the donation will be put to proper use.
“This donation is timely because as a community library, we run outdoor outreach programs most especially to schools, designed to instill a reading culture while evolving creative approaches to make reading more lively, fun and appealing. Secondly, we are situated in Kasubi slums. Many dwellers don’t have access to reading material but we are here to offer a service. Therefore, this donation is timely,”
Mugisha added: “To our partner, we can only pledge to put this donation to good use.”
