In Mbale City
A joint special meeting of the Greater Bukonde Clans United Development Association and community elders, held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Lwasso Seed Secondary School, ended in chaos and prematurely after attempts to endorse Hudu Hussein as the sole candidate for Bukonde and Lwasso in the Mbale Northern City Division MP race flopped.
The meeting, chaired by Mr. Lookman Wafuba, brought together aspiring MPs Hudu Hussein and Ivan Masaba, while incumbent MP Seth Wambede was represented by Aziz Naswangi. Elders, religious leaders, and opinion leaders from the area also attended.

In his opening remarks, Wafuba urged the people to support a candidate trusted and known by the government, naming Hudu Hussein as the right choice. He further called on Masaba and Wambede to step down and rally behind Hussein. This proposal, however, sparked anger and led to a walkout by Masaba and several community members, forcing the meeting to end prematurely.
Masaba condemned the move, arguing that the Northern City Division is bigger than Bukonde and Lwass “We’re not looking for an MP for Bukonde and Lwasso but for the entire division. A small group of less than 200 people can’t sit down and decide for all of us. In the last elections, NUP got 68% and Museveni got 23%. We will win again. If they think they can impose a candidate, we’ll throw them down,” Masaba said.

Representing Wambede, Naswangi said the MP declined to attend because the meeting lacked a clear agenda and was poorly organized. He stressed that Wambede would not step down for anyone and confirmed his return to the ballot as an independent on October 15 and asked them to come and join him for the nominations. “Bukonde and Lwasso cannot decide for the whole division. As Team Seth, we believe Northern City Division voters will decide, not a small group imposing endorsements,” Naswangi added.

Meanwhile other insiders in that meeting revealed that the current politically loved lion of Northern City Division, a prominent lawyer and man for the people Paul Mugoya Wanyoto, was the reason why elders rejected the tricks brought up by Hudu Hussein to claim that he could be endorsed by voters.
“Why should Hudu Hussein fear to face the political loved giant of Northern city division Wanyoto Paul Mugoya on the ballot paper? He has started gathering people to fake a sole endorsement in an attempt to show that he has support but we have rejected him openly” Said Wanambwa Micheal a resident of Lwaso in the Northern city division of Mbale.

Wanyoto Paul Mugoya has politically met Hudu Hussein twice and beat him thoroughly as the first was in the Eastern Youth MP politics though Peter Ogwang carried the day , but Paul Wanyoto also thounced the remaining contenders including Hudu Hussein as you will read in our coming political analysis this week.
Efforts to get his take on the matter failed as Hudu Hussein’s known phone numbers were off by press time.
