BURUNDI: Museveni finally congratulates Maj. Gen. Ndayishimye, pledges close working relations

Maj. Gen. (RTD) Evariste Ndayishimye has Thursday been sworn in as President of Burudi.

This, after his May 20, 2020 victory in the country’s Presidential Polls and death of Pierre Nkurunziza on June 8, 2020.

However, whereas Heads of State in the region rushed to congratulate the CNDD-FDD man, Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni did not.

Finally, in a statement Thursday, he has congratulated Ndayishimye.

“Congratulations to His Excellency Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Evariste Ndayishimye, who was sworn-in today as President of Burundi, following the massive victory of the CNDD-FDD party in elections held on May 20th, 2020.

The resounding victory was a clear manifestation of the level of trust and confidence the people of Burundi have in the new President and his party. I also thank the people of Burundi for being peaceful during and after the election,” Museveni said, pledging support to the retired army general.

“On my own behalf and that of Ugandans, I wish His Excellency Ndayishimye a successful tenure in office as well as the continued peace, progress and prosperity of Burundi. We also look to working closely with you to strengthen bilateral ties of our two countries,” he said.
