CDF, Nation Media Group Bosses Meet Over Closure of Media Outlets

The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) as well as Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has met the top bosses of Nation Media Group (NMG) Uganda as part of efforts to harmonize the situation that led to the closure of the company’s media outlets, including NTV Uganda, Sparker TV, KFM radio, Dembe FM Radio and the Daily Monitor Newspaper.

The meeting was held on July 1,2026, at the Special Forces Command (SFC) headquarters in Entebbe and was attended by NMG owner Rostam Aziz, his son Saam Aziz, and Georgia Mutagaywa, the Chief of Staff of Taarifa Limited, the parent Company of NMG Uganda. Others in attendance include; veteran journalist and Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) leader Andrew Mwenda,and the Acting UPDF/Defence Public Information Director, Col. Chris Magezi.

The meeting comes just a few days following the closure of Nation Media Group Uganda’s premises by joint security agencies on the orders of Gen. Muhoozi. 

The closure of the Nation Media Group came after the CDF accused the media house of conducting what he described as a sustained campaign of blackmail against the government and its leadership, while promoting opposition and foreign interests at the expense of Ugandan Newspapers.

During the meeting, the parties reviewed several instances of reporting that the government considers biased and malicious. Nation Media Group bosses pledged to pursue journalism that is more patriotic, balanced, and objective going forward. 

However, the meeting forms part of ongoing engagements aimed at addressing the dispute between the government and the media group.

At the end of the discussion, Gen. Muhoozi announced through his social media platforms that he would submit a formal report regarding the discussions to President Yoweri Museveni whom he said that his guidance would form the final decision on whether to reopen Nation Media Group or remain closed.
