Entebbe Division ‘B’ ofices where the parish youth election was
scheduled to take place turned into a chaotic scene after DP supporters accused their counterpart in NRM of attempting to bribe them with some money to vote in favor of NRM canddates. The chaos compelled the division election supervisor Disan Kigozi to postponed the voting exercise till further notice.
The violent NRM supporters grabbed the voters register as soon the returning officer finished counting votes of DP candidate who had won
with 24 votes out of the 43 votes. They accused two of the DP voters of betraying them on the polling day yet the previous night they had
paid them Shs2m not to show up on the polling day.
“We paid six DP supporters our money not to show up at the polling
center and each received Shs 2m. And four of them did not show up except the two who include Rodric Kiwewa and Ronald Serungi. We couldnot allow the voting exercise to go on when they outmatched in number by five voters. The DP supporters should first refund our money before the voting takes place, short of this we shall disorganize the exercise.
The Entebbe Municipality mayor Vincent De Paul Kayanja also the DP flag-bearer in the mayoral race, accused the police and the army of siding with NRM supporters who beat up DP supporters in addition to using an iron hand to disperse DP voters who were walking to their respective homes peacefully folowing the cancelation of the voting exercise at Entebbe Division ‘B’ offices.
‘its unfair for security personel to side with NRM supporters. They
just watch them battering our supporters. When our supporters fight
back the security personel descend on them.
Godfrey Maggwa Sali, the Democratic Partyspokesperson, blamed theruling government for militarizing and monetizing politics arguing
that this has led to voting incapable leaders with no leadership
skills at all.
“its so absurd for the ruling government to militarize and monetize
the politics. As DP we are not scared with the way they splash cash to
buy voters and the presence of security personel at the poling
staions. We shall continue to fight for truth and justice untill DP
takes over the leadership mantle.
meanwhile voting in Entebbe Division ‘A’where NRM had majority voters
went on smothly without any interferences from the security organs
and NRM candidates swept all the slots with ease.
