COVID-19: Kutesa, Kiyonga Meet Chinese Ambassador Over Evicted Ugandans

By Henry Mulindwa

The minister for foreign affairs Sam Kahamba Kutesa together with Uganda’s ambassador to China Crispus Kiyonga have today met Chinese Ambassador to Uganda over reports of mistreatment and harassment of Ugandans in China.

Reports from China indicates that several Ugandans and indeed several blacks in China are currently sleeping on the streets of China after they were allegedly evicted from their rooms and places of residence on accusations of being responsible for the cause of COVID-19.

In what seems to be a racist attack on Africans, several Chinese are reported to have attacked blacks on grounds that they are the ones that exported Corona virus to China.

This virus which started in Chinese province of Whuan as since killed thousands in China and spread allover the globe leaving many dead.In a statement issued by foreign affairs ministry, it is indicated that Kutesa in today’s meeting conveyed a serious concern from government of Uganda regarding the situation of Ugandans in China.

“The minister called government of China to intervene and address the plight of Ugandans in China. The Chinese Ambassador Zheng Zhuquiang assured the minister that China values the relationship with Uganda and other African countries” the statement said.

Zheng said that his government was taking steps to address the matter and undertook to take up the matter with authorities in China.

The meeting was also attended by foreign affairs PS Patrick Mugoya.
