Cultural Leaders Sensitize pupils on Rights and Empowerment in Tororo

Tororo District, Uganda – The Cross-Cultural Foundation and Tieng Adhola Cultural institution, in collaboration with government officials conducted a sensitization campaign in schools, focusing on pupils’ rights, gender-based violence, and sexual reproductive health.

Julius Oburu, Cross Cultural Foundation, emphasized discussing sensitive topics with pupils, citing widespread abuse and lack of awareness on reporting mechanisms.

Hon. Kevin Asinde, third Deputy Prime Minister, cautioned against drug abuse, night fundraising, and early sex, highlighting HIV/AIDS and early pregnancy risk

Hon. Constance Adeka, Deputy Speaker of the Supreme Assembly, urged pupils to report abuse, respect their bodies, and focus on education.

The campaign targeted candidate classes at Namwendia and Bere Primary Schools in West Budama north east, Tororo District, addressing issues like rape, defilement, and discontinued education due to abuse.

Report rights violations to local leaders, police, teachers, or parents.

Avoid harmful cultural practices and prioritize education.

Emulate positive role models and respect cultural beliefs.

The campaign aims to combat gender-based violence and sexual reproductive rights affecting pupils, with continued sensitization efforts.
