Shocking to many, the police Tuesday asked sister security agency, the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) to redeploy on the disputed Kassanda land which has so far seen one person hacked dead.
In a consultative meeting held Tuesday at Bukompe Village, Kyakatebe Parish in Nalutuntu Sub-County, Kassanda District Police Commander Daniel Ogwellan said it was until the UPDF was ordered out when violent clashes erupted.
“These incidents were not there when the UPDF was here.” a helpless Ogwellan said, looking at Maj. Gen. Sam Kiwanuka of Mubende Rehabilitation Centre.
Earlier, local investor, Abid Alam had made a similar request.
While speaking to participants, Kiwanuka said he participated in evicting his officers from Bukompe after reports of rape and violence against army officers.
He did not confirm whether or not his officers will return on the said land.
The meeting was to among others establish a temporary boundary separating Abid and the locals to avert future clashes.
This, of course, followed the October 6, 2019 attack on a local resident Everesto Bizimungu by aides to Abid. He was hacked, rushed to Hope Clinic-Kyakatebe but succumbed to injuries inflicted on him, a day later.
Over three people have so far been arrested in relation to his killing Vide SD Ref 13/06/10/2019.
