Mbarara, Uganda – 3rd March 2026– Letshego Uganda has today handed over 15 high-tech computers to St. Joseph’s University, Mbarara, in a move aimed at strengthening digital learning infrastructure and expanding students’ access to technology-driven education.
The computers will upgrade the University’s computer laboratory, directly benefiting students across business, IT and social sciences programmes by improving research capacity, digital literacy and practical skills development.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Roger Mugisha Shillingi, Corporate Affairs Lead at Letshego Uganda, emphasized that education remains central to the institution’s community investment strategy.
“Education is the most sustainable form of empowerment. When we invest in digital access and academic infrastructure, we are not just equipping a lab — we are equipping future accountants, entrepreneurs, innovators and leaders. Financial inclusion begins with knowledge.”
Shillingi noted that in a rapidly digitizing economy, institutions of higher learning must be supported to prepare students for modern workforce demands, including data skills, digital fluency and analytical capability.
Letshego Uganda’s commitment to education is longstanding. The company proudly employs Ms. Ruth Agume, a first-class degree holder in Accounts and alumna of St. Joseph’s University, who currently serves at its Head Office. Her journey from academic excellence to professional growth reflects the impact of quality education combined with opportunity.
In addition, Letshego Uganda has maintained a four-year educational sponsorship partnership supporting Fortunate Atuhaire at MaryHill High School (currently in senior three) reinforcing the company’s focus on sustained, long-term academic empowerment.
Rev. Fr. Dr. Deus Karemiire, Vice Chancellor of St. Joseph’s University, welcomed the partnership and described it as timely and transformative.
“Digital competence is no longer optional in higher education. These computers will significantly strengthen our teaching, research and student training environment. We are grateful to Letshego Uganda for walking with us in shaping graduates who are competitive, skilled and ready for the modern economy.”
The University leadership affirmed that the upgraded computer lab will enhance access for hundreds of students annually and improve the institution’s capacity to deliver technology-enabled instruction. Letshego Uganda reiterated that the initiative forms part of a broader commitment to responsible corporate citizenship.
“This is not a one-off gesture. It is the beginning of continued engagement with institutions that are building Uganda’s human capital. We believe strong communities create strong economies and education is where that journey starts,” added Shillingi.
The handover ceremony was attended by University management, students and members of the media.
